Interpreter – Grade 9 at the World Trade Organization (WTO) - Geneva

The Secretariat of WTO is seeking to fill a position of Interpreter in the Interpretation Section in the Language Services and Documentation Division.  Applications from men and women are equally welcome.  Serving staff members interested in this position are also invited to apply.

Interpreter – Grade 9 [1]

STARTING SALARY

Approximately Swiss francs 120,600 net p.a.

OTHER CONDITIONS

In accordance with WTO Staff Regulations and Staff Rules and WTO Pension Plan Regulations.

A package of expatriate benefits is available to staff recruited internationally.

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT

Fixed-term for two years, with possibility of extension.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Under the general supervision of the Chief Interpreter, the incumbent will carry out the following tasks:

  1. providing simultaneous and consecutive interpretation from French and Spanish into English and from English and Spanish into French at all WTO meetings;
  2. assisting the Chief Interpreter in coordinating staff and temporary interpreters and in training and evaluating new and junior temporary interpreters;
  3. collaborating in all activities related to WTO terminology, and in particular help create and update glossaries;  assume responsibility for the Section's reference material pertaining to WTO Bodies;
  4. acting as head of team and replacing the Chief Interpreter whenever necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A university degree in Conference Interpretation, languages or law and economics or equivalent professional qualification.  A solid level of general culture and an in-depth knowledge of international affairs.
  2. A minimum of 10 years' professional experience in interpretation at international conferences in a variety of subjects and particularly those related to the work of the WTO.
  3. Language combination:
    1. active languages          English                       A
                                        French                       A or a very     active B
    2. passive language         Spanish                      C

       Knowledge of another language and computer literacy would be an asset.
