The AIIC Directory of members will be made available online as part of this website. Sophisticated query possibilities will be offered in a private area as a new service to AIIC consultant interpreters and members.
  • In AIIC you will find a forum where the experience and know-how of members all over the world is shared.

I would like to thank you for such an informative website. However, I would like to know the following:
1. What are your annual membership fees?
2. How can I join when I do not know any of your members?

I will be grateful for a prompt reply.

Best regards.

AIIC membership is restricted to practising conference interpreters. 150 days' experience are necessary in order to apply.

This doesn't mean to say that AIIC is not interested in students or training. Quite on the contrary, AIIC is in contact with interpretation schools and has designed programmes to help young interpreters enter the profession. Watch this website for more information about that in the very near future. In the meantime, please consult our young interpreters' section on this site here.

If you're a student and would like to get in touch with AIIC on any training-related matter, you can contact our young interpreters network at .

I guess this is a question rather than a comment.
I am a free-lance interpreter ( consecutive but mainly simultaneous) who has worked at major national and internatinal conferences for several hundred days over the past 15 years. Many of these conferences were awarded to my own company, which is why I was not associated with members of AIIC. I do not know three members of AIIC well enough to ask their endorsement of my qualifications. It seems that I am blocked for this reason from applying, even as a pre-candidate: is there any way around this? I can of course, supply lists of the conferences for which I interpreted.

Our list of members has been available on this website for some time now.

You'll find it at http://www.aiic.net/database.

AIIC is currently considering making more sophisticated search features available on this website.

Subject: Payment of dues over the Internet

We currently have no system in place allowing members to pay their yearly dues by credit card over the Internet.

Many technical options are now available and rather easy to implement. The only open question is how many members would make use of that possibility and whether the investment is really worthwhile.

My impression so far is that members were on average rather reluctant to use their credit card online, but things may be changing.

I suggest you get in touch with your Council member who will centralise all requests and address the matter with Council.
