The International Monetary Fund is seeking to develop a recruitment pool for the following professional position at its headquarters in Washington D.C. (USA).
Qualifications
Candidates must have the ability to translate economic, financial, legal, and statistical material from French and Spanish into English, meeting high standards of quality within tight production deadlines, and should show the potential to develop into fully autonomous translators requiring revision only for the most difficult texts. Additional source languages will be considered an asset.
Other requirements include a high level of competence in office automation (familiarity with automated translation tools will be considered an asset); skill and initiative in researching points of terminology, language, and subject matter; good interpersonal skills; and the ability to work as part of a team. Administrative and project management skills and experience will be regarded as an asset.
Duties/Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Chinese, English and Portuguese Division, the incumbent will translate a varied range of Fund texts using word processing, spreadsheet, and other appropriate software, and organizing work to meet assigned deadlines. Responsibilities will include ensuring that translations are equivalent in meaning and style to original text, and researching points of terminology, language, and subject matter. The incumbent may be required to produce final translations and also to revise translations prepared by less experienced staff or external contractors.
Educational Requirements
Candidates must hold an advanced university degree, preferably in a language-related field, economics, and/or law, supplemented by four years of relevant professional experience in translation of economic and financial texts into English.
Pre-selected candidates will be required to take written translation tests, and to participate in a panel interview.
