The International Monetary Fund is seeking to develop a recruitment pool for the following professional positions at its headquarters in Washington D.C. (USA).
Qualifications
Candidates must be professional English booth conference interpreters with demonstrated ability to provide top-quality simultaneous and consecutive interpretation at high-level international meetings, courses, missions, and seminars. They must have English as their mother tongue, have a very solid retour into either Spanish or French, and excellent passive French and Spanish. Knowledge of Portuguese is a plus. Candidates must have the ability to work under pressure and should be willing to travel on missions abroad.
They should also have the ability to translate economic, financial, legal, and statistical material from French and Spanish into English, meeting high standards of quality within tight production deadlines. A keen sense of teamwork is required. Additional translation languages will be considered an asset.
Duties/Responsibilities
The incumbent’s primary duty will be to provide simultaneous and consecutive interpretation at HQ and on mission, under the supervision of the Chief Interpreter. The incumbent will act as team leader during missions, coordinating the interpretation assignments and revising and finalizing the translation work produced by other team members. The incumbent will perform translation and translation-related duties under the supervision of the Chief of the Chinese, English and Portuguese Division.
Educational requirements
An advanced university degree in interpretation and/or translation or in an economics-related field supplemented by four years of relevant experience, preferably with international organizations. A high level of competence in information technology tools is also required.
Pre-selected candidates will be required to take simultaneous and consecutive interpretation tests and written translation tests, and to participate in a panel interview.
