2010 Cambridge Conference Interpretation Course - Refresher course for professional conference interpreters

26th intensive course in the practice of simultaneous conference interpretation

Venue: Cambridge, United Kingdom
Date: 1-13 August 2010

This annual refresher course for professional interpreters offers a student-teacher ratio not exceeding 3:1. Instruction is centred on the training of simultaneous interpretation from speeches delivered by both guest speakers and teaching faculty members. Video and audio sources are also employed. Subsequent general, group and individual performance feedback is both extensive and detailed.

The 26 students will work about 5 hours per day in 2-person ISO booths. A wide range of technical and general subjects will be briefed under authentic conference conditions, including UN-format mock meetings. Several working days are themed by topic.

In addition to the core curriculum, daily morning and evening specialised modules in a variety of fields (consecutive techniques, B-language strategies, use of texts, meeting terminology and practice, booth and stress management, marketing and negotiation, approaches to Shakespeare and the Bible etc..) and briefings on AIIC and the profession, are offered. 'Chuchotage' training is also provided, using real-life scenarios.

Three Course packages are available:

  • tuition only
  • tuition and hotel B&B
  • tuition and hotel full board

Course languages are: English, French, German, Russian and Spanish, according to demand. The language of general instruction is English, while a number of 'language-specific' sessions allow for in-depth tuition in students' other working languages.

Fees (less deposit) may be paid by credit card.

Experience indicates that enrolment before February is highly advisable.
