Description
The IDB's Interpretation Section is currently seeking candidates for the position of Interpreter. The Section provides interpretation services for the institutions of the IDB Group, namely the Board of Governors, the Board of Executive Directors, and Senior Management Committees of the IDB, the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), as well as the Donors Committee of the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF). It also hires and coordinates interpretation services for IDB Group seminars and events.
Pre-selected candidates will be required to take a simultaneous interpretation test.
Key Responsibilities
- Interprets into Spanish from English, French and Portuguese, employing appropriate vocabulary and correctly applying professional, scientific, and technical concepts and terms. Monitors and promotes the consistent application of methodologies, procedures, policies and best practices.
- Prepares for meetings by reviewing Bank documents and doing research to ensure a thorough understanding of issues, concepts, and terminology.
- Contributes to the Interpretation section's terminology files.
- Acts as coordinating interpreter for free-lance teams at Headquarters and for the Spanish booth at the Annual Meeting.
- Assists the Chief of the Interpretation section in his/her duties and replaces the Chief in his/her absence when necessary.
- Provides input to resolve complex technical problems related to Interpretation.
- Provides mentorship and technical guidance to more junior staff.
Qualifications
Technical Competencies
- Education: Advanced university degree or equivalent training and an internationally recognized Interpretation Certificate (may be substituted with four additional years of experience). A university degree in fields related to the Bank's work is desirable; an in-depth understanding of economic, financial and development concepts and terminology is essential.
- Experience: A minimum of five years of recent experience as conference interpreter, including at least four years with international organizations. In-house experience as a staff interpreter at an international organization is highly desirable.
- Languages: Perfect command of Spanish coupled with an excellent knowledge of English and at least one, and preferably two, of the Bank's other official languages, French and Portuguese. (Ideally Spanish A, English B, French and Portuguese C)
