Work Stoppages To Continue at the EU

Coreper considers that it has debated the Article 78 issue sufficiently and does not intend to consider it further. It will in all probability put the item onto the agenda of the next General Affairs Council on 20th March 2000.

In line with the resolutions approved unanimously both at the sectoral meeting by session auxiliary and freelance interpreters, and at the extraordinary general assembly by staff interpreters, a first work stoppage was held at Council meeting on Thursday 24/02, and further action is planned between now and 20th March.

Please listen out for dates and type of action on the Commission voicemail (Cristal).

We would ask all colleagues working for the EU to pass on this information.

i was overseas in WI in feb/Mar and caught a story about a 15 min general strike in euorpe...NO ONE i spoke with IN THE U.S. HAS EVER HEARD OF IT! big surprise...does anyone have a referral for me...these are educated people who listen to"alternative media". This is a vital story, and I want to see it disseminated. America's freedom of speech is seriously compromised.
