A region is a group of AIIC members that is represented on AIIC's governing body (Council). A region can only be established if at least 25 AIIC members have their professional address in the region. Most regions coincide with countries, but may also consist of several countries.

Under AIIC rules, each AIIC member automatically belongs to a region on the basis of his/her professional address; the member's professional address on 1st February determines the amount of AIIC dues.

Each region has a regional bureau responsible, in particular, for convening regional meetings. The member or members of Council are automatically included, as are the regional secretary and regional treasurer; the region may appoint additional members.

AIIC regions meet to discuss problems. Regional meetings are the venue for debates to sound out the views of local AIIC interpreters in order to prepare AIIC Assemblies.
