Continuing education certificate for interpreter trainers (Certificat de formation continue pour formateur d'interprètes de conférence) Université de Genève, Ecole de traduction et d'interprétation (ETI) January - September 2000 This course addresses the pedagogical needs of experienced conference interpreters (as well as sign language interpreters) planning to teach conference interpreting at university level. A series of 12 all-day seminars (3-15 January 2000) provide the theoretical and pedagogical foundation for developing a successful teaching career in this field. Participants registering for the complete certificate program also need to complete 20 hours of classroom observation, pass three teaching exams and submit a seminar paper. Interested colleagues may also register for the seminar series only, their applications are considered if space is available. Seminar topics: The interpreting process; Overview of research activities with special emphasis on pedagogical orientations; Developing expertise in interpreting; Issues in bilingualism; Testing; Evaluating classroom performance and providing feedback to students; Design and implementation of research projects; The interpreter's voice; Teaching consecutive interpreting; Teaching simultaneous interpreting; Curriculum and syllabus planning; Lesson planning; Language update for interpreters.
