CRIC 2000 SEMINAR In choosing a subject for our next seminar, we decided to take the opportunity of the Jubilee to analyze a number of issues of a very topical nature which present highly specialized terminology and a very broad range of language. We also hope this initiative will be of use to colleagues who have so far never worked in this area, but who might receive a number of offers of work linked to the events organized in conjunction with the Jubilee in the year 2000. The first speaker will be Mons. Diarmuid Martin, secretary of the Pontifical Council Justitia et Pax, who will discuss the international commitment of the Holy See. Prof. Enzo Pace, Vice President of the International Society for the Sociology of Religions, will explain the geopolitics of religions and fundamentalist movements. The whole of the afternoon will be devoted to an update of linguistic and interpreting knowledge. Our intention is to provide a kind of compass such as to allow newcomers to the field to find their way more effectively than by the faint twinkling of terminology. In order to do this we have invited a number of interpreters to make brief presentations. This will be followed by a discussion of the documentation they and other colleagues will be making available, which will include not only glossaries but also insights into the issues and the terminology related to the major religions, fundamentalist groups and sects. The Internet is another area which will be increasingly in the news and which will influence countless aspects of our daily lives as interpreters and members of society. Therefore, at the end of the first day, we have decided to have a special slot, geared in particular to colleagues who have no experience of the Internet. This is intended as an introductory session to the second day of the seminar when Vincent Buck, AIIC webmaster and conference interpreter, will be showing us how to use the Internet to find reference material and terminology and then how to move on to manage retrieved information and structure glossaries so as to locate desired terms without resorting to discrete files. Tecnoconference Europe has been kind enough to lay on the equipment for the demonstration. Many people have asked for the opportunity to meet socially, so at the end of the first day we have organized a cocktail party to which all participants are invited. The registration fee is ITL 230.000 (euro 118,78) + 20% VAT. Consorzio Romano Interpreti di Conferenza Once again this year, the Chamber of Deputies has been kind enough to provide us with premises for the seminar, which will take place on January 28 and 29 at the Sala del Refettorio, 76 Via del Seminario. Considering the limited seating available in the room please contact us to make sure places are still available before making your bank transfer: 28 gennaio 200008.45 Iscrizione dei partecipanti 16.00 Panel terminologico interattivo 18.30 Cocktail 29 gennaio 2000
