At present most of the interpretation courses - other than those that are specifically conference interpretation (mid-level, college and intensive courses) are geared towards the types of markets mentioned above. Unfortunately the training offered by those courses is rarely conducted by practising professionals, thus making it difficult to dovetail training to reality. Court interpretation. There is a growing need for this type of interpretation, not only in courts but also in immigration services and agencies and attorney's offices. In some countries this type of interpretation is regulated and the professionals that work in federal and state courts must pass a battery of tests. Upon their successful completion they become "Court certified interpreters". Interpreter - Guides: This activity is regulated in most countries and professionals undergo specific training, following which they are certified, but can only exercise their activity if they acquire a "professional license". In Portugal for example working conditions are negotiated by the unions that represent the tourism sector. Their market is basically domestic. A conference interpreter is not a guide who deals exclusively with matters related to cultural and historic heritage. |
