What does AIIC do?
AIIC is the only interlocutor vis a vis International Organisations with which it has signed Collective Agreements on working conditions for free lance interpreters. For the non-institutional private market AIIC recommends a series of procedures that help defend working conditions and ensure high quality and professionalism. (Code of Ethics, contracts, use of new technologies and many others). These procedures are useful for conference organisers, since they address technical matters and help with equipment checklists for hotels and offer guidelines for speakers and journalists. Internally, AIIC members conduct studies, research projects and multiple activities in the area of training and awareness. Externally, AIIC members are directly involved in: - conference interpreter training, - multidisciplinary research on cognitive processes, - refresher courses for practising professionals, - preparation of standards for booths and equipment used in simultaneous interpretation - making the best use of new technologies and - numerous efforts to attain recognition for the profession. |
