Introducing International Institutions - ICTY

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) is a UN court of law established in 1993 to prosecute individuals responsible for war crimes committed in the former Yugoslavia since 1991. Located in The Hague, the ICTY is an ad hoc judicial institution expected to complete its mandate by February 2014.

Simultaneous interpretation into English, French and the language of the accused (Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (BCS), Albanian or Macedonian) is provided at all ICTY hearings and sessions.

The ICTY has 35 staff interpreters and recruits a large number of freelance interpreters based mainly in Paris, Brussels and the former Yugoslavia. All together, they provide over 6,000 interpreter days per year.

Marijana Nikolic, Head of the ICTY Interpretation Unit, will come to Paris to speak about the institution and its interpretation service.
