In this workshop Michelle Hof will take interpreter trainers through topics related to IT and virtual learning.

IT is becoming an essential tool for students and trainers in all fields, and interpreter training can benefit enormously from technological developments. Virtual learning, a trend that has taken the world of post-secondary education by storm, can allow both established and up-and-coming interpreting programs to extend their reach while maximizing their use of resources. In this seminar, Michelle Hof will take participants through topics such as:

  • Making the most of new IT tools
  • The ins and outs of online learning platforms and virtual classrooms
  • Teaching and testing interpreting techniques using virtual technology
  • Effective blended learning approaches
  • Ensuring support and motivation of virtual students and trainers
  • Online collaboration and networking between students, trainers and schools

Michelle Hof is a conference interpreter, trainer and curriculum developer. She teaches in both face-to-face and virtual learning environments for the Master’s programs at the University of La Laguna (Spain) and York University (Canada). She is a familiar presence in the online interpreting community through her outreach work for AIIC’s Social Media team and her blog The Interpreter Diaries.
