Teachers of conference interpreting will have an opportunity to delve into both general and specific classroom issues in this seminar to be led by Dick Fleming, former organiser of the EU Commission interpreter training course. Two consecutive 2-day courses will be held to allow more trainers to attend.
This seminar on best practices will invite participants to explore a number of issues relating to the teaching of simultaneous interpreting. The topics to be covered will depend on the specific needs of the participants- to be determined in advance- but could include (subject to time constraints):
Trainer: Dick Fleming - formerly organiser of the EU Commission interpreter training course and subsequently Trainer of Trainers both in-house and for various universities.
During the seminar - particularly in the trouble-shooting sessions - he will focus on participants’ stated teaching problems and their students’ main learning problems as expressed in their replies to a questionnaire to be returned at least 4 weeks in advance of the course. (Language specific issues may be submitted, but it may not be possible to deal with them). Participants may also be asked to bring with them examples of simultaneous interpretation exercises or classroom techniques that they find particularly useful.
In this way we hope to provide participants with answers to specific issues that interest them, whilst also offering a broad and informative overview of questions exercising other teachers.
Participants should be practising conference interpreters and trainers of conference interpreters.
