Letter of the Law: Legal Interpretation in a Bi-jural and Bilingual Context
Join Professor Louis Beaudoin, LL.L, trad.a, for a one-day workshop on interpreting in a bi-jural and bilingual (French and English) context such as legal conferences, judicial hearings, administrative tribunal hearings and various instances of the Federal Court of Canada. He will guide practicing interpreters in deepening understanding of the principles and notions that underpin the common-law and civil law systems; examine French and English legal terminology with respect to vocabulary, syntax and style; and explore issues that arise from interpreting legal meaning and content to and from both languages.
A highly edifying and practical course specifically designed for conference interpreters to achieve the highest degree of accurate and idiomatic interpretation in a wide range of legal interpretation assignments.
