Freelance conference interpreters are self-employed. They are contracted to work on a short-term basis on specific tasks for various clients in succession. Since they often work for a wide variety of organisations, they cover many different subjects and work for many different kinds of people.
Consultant interpreters recruit teams of interpreters to meet the needs of a particular client or event. While being interpreters in their own right, they also assess the client's language, interpreting and subject matter requirements before choosing the right interpreters for the job and offering a tailor-made solution to the client’s needs.
Staff interpreters are temporary or permanent employees of national or international organisations. They have a reliable income but have less freedom in planning their own work.
