Introducing international institutions - United Nations Office in Vienna
7.15pm, 4th June, 2010, at ESIT (Room B), Centre Universitaire Dauphine (2nd floor), Place du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny, 75016 Paris
The United Nations is an international organisation founded in 1945 after the Second World War by 51 countries committed to maintaining international peace and security. The Organisation works on a broad range of fundamental issues, from sustainable development, the environment and the protection of refugees, disaster relief, counter-terrorism, disarmament and non-proliferation, to promoting democracy, human rights, governance, economic and social development and international health, clearing landmines, expanding food production, and more, in order to achieve its goals and coordinate efforts for a safer world for this and future generations.
United Nations has recognised the need to create an outreach program to raise awareness about the UN language services outside the UN.
It has been established that making contacts with universities in charge of training future interpreters should be one of the main objectives of the program. Young trainees should become acquainted, early on in their training, with the requirements to become a professional UN interpreter. Furthermore, it should be kept in mind that United Nations is already anticipating a large number of retirements in the next 10 years thus leaving a very large number of vacancies.
Clear communication and direct contacts with students will facilitate the recruitment process and ensure that we maintain the highest level of quality that has always prevailed at the UN.
Marie Diur, Head of the French booth at the UN Office in Vienna will be making the presentation and will be happy to answer any questions.
This presentation is open to student interpreters, recent graduates of interpreting schools and interpreters who wish to find out more about UNOV.
Please confirm your intention to attend by Friday 1st June by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
