Training of trainers: Matching interpreting classes with student needs

This Rome seminar sponsored by AIIC Training took a practical approach to help teachers break down skill acquisition - and make the experience enjoyable! Here's a quick overview through participants'

From the editorThis course featured a practical approach to interpreter training, breaking down skills and the different phases of skill acquisition and showing how to make the learning process engaging. Particular attention was given to getting the transition between phases right, as well as to the critical choice of exercises and material. Cathy Pearson, a former teacher and now staff interpreter and senior trainer for the European Commission, led the course. Barry Olsen contributed a talk on "Conference interpreting and the challenges of going virtual."
